Happy Father's Day

"I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection." -Sigmund Freud

Fathers are so very important for each of us that "When one has not had a good father one must create one." Good advice from Friedrich Nietzche. Fathers in American culture are often absent from child rearing.
John Bradshaw writes on his own longing for this important male role model, and Eminem, once questioned about his father stated, "My father? I never knew him, never seen a picture of him."  This Father's Day consider this special relationship, honoring it's complications and importance. Consider the following attributes of the healthy, loving Father archetype: protection, direction, discipline, conditional love. And if you are fortunate in having a close, loving relationship with your father let him know!

Happy Mother's Day

"Moms. They're warm, yet intrusive. Thoughtful, yet embarrassing. Loving, yet annoying."
The most complex and most important of all our relationships is with our mother. Every Mother's Day brings back memories filled with emotion. Who are we with or without our mothers? We look for her in our most intimate relationships, seeking unconditional love, a longing to be witnessed and seen as precious. And as a mother, one may never be truly known by their children because of the archetypal energy that surrounds her. This Mother's Day acknowledge your own mother, all the mothers that have nurtured us, mother earth and the mother that we develop within ourselves. "Herald what your mother says" and truth be known she is always a voice within us in spite of time.
